Well, my second time at the LDMAG meeting went well. This is the Learning Disability Ministerial Advisory Group that I attend with other self-advocates to represent All Wales People First.
I had the opportunity to bring up the issues that the north Wales groups wanted me to share. These included the misuse of blue badge spaces in Wrexham, transport issues including the case of one person who has had their bus pass withdrawn and they are on a low income. I also raised the lack of funding and limited resources for self-advocacy groups – such as Roaring Mon not having a permanent place to meet. I’m definitely finding my feet and getting used to the role.
The meeting is held in the Welsh Government building in Cathays – it’s very impressive and there’s lots of security. I caught up with the other self advocates whilst I was there.
Jess booked me passenger assistance with Transport for Wales and this made a real difference when I was travelling home from Cardiff. Someone met me on the platform and helped me to get on the train with my bags and get settled. She was really nice, and I might write and thank them.
I needed help because I broke my toe a few weeks ago and I’m using a crutch to help me walk about.
Exciting news is that I have a first date tomorrow with someone who told me he has been interested in me for a while. I’m more excited than nervous – I love meeting new people. For the rest of the weekend, I’ll probably visit the family. My sister lives on the bus route, but mum’s house is out in the sticks, so she often comes to pick me up.
Super excited for AdFest which is in north Wales this year. It’s great that it’s up north (though I do prefer to travel down to south Wales!).
