My name is Paul and I live in Bangor in north Wales with my family. I’m not a fluent Welsh speaker but I do know the basics.

I’ve just got home after my volunteering shift at the British Heart Foundation shop. I go there every Friday and sort the donations.

I’m also an Honorary Lecturer at Bangor University – I was given this role because of my contribution to the nursing studies course.  I help students understand what it is like for people with a learning disability if they go into hospital. One of my colleagues nominated me to be an Honorary Lecturer and I have been one since 2022.

I’m off to London for the day next week to the Student Nursing Awards.

I’m quite busy during the week. I go to day centres 3 times a week. I do life skills on Tuesdays, art and music on Wednesdays with Anheddau and on Mondays I work at Menter Fachwen.

I also go to Cae Doctor Gardening Club once a month – I really enjoy weeding!

I represented Wales in the Special Olympics football team in 2013. I took part in Westminster Vitality Mile Run in 2022 to support Special Olympics Great Britain. I’ve also done tennis, badminton and basketball.

I’ll be coming to AdFest this year with my colleague Ruth – we’re delivering a workshop called ‘This is Me’.  It’s all about being positive and helping people to understand that having a learning disability can be a positive thing.
