My name is Adam and I do lots of work with People First Bridgend. I won an award at AdFest 2023 with my colleague Raymond Byles. We won the Linton Gower Memorial Award which was for a member or members who have done something outstanding towards the running of their self-advocacy group. I am a member of People First Bridgend, and we meet up around twice a month. It’s a big group. I get to meetings on the bus or train – I’m confident using public transport on my own.
I live in my own flat within a supported living complex. There are support workers available, but I don’t need them. I can live independently.
I enjoy walking, going to the cinema, shopping and especially going to the arcades in Porthcawl and playing on the Play Station. I have family living nearby too. I’m friends with everyone else who lives in the supported living complex. I’ve been there for about 10 years now.
I cook for myself – I can cook absolutely anything! I have noticed that things cost a lot more now and I have to be more careful with my money.
Being part of the community is very important to me and I volunteer at an animal welfare charity shop in Maesteg on Wednesday afternoons. On Tuesdays I help out at the Food Bank – handing out food packages to people and on Fridays I volunteer at a plant nursery, helping to do the gardening.
I enjoy being in the water and I go to swimming club in Pencoed once a week – I’m a member of the Bridgend Sharks Disability Swimming Group and I go to Canoe Club in Maesteg weekly too!
