Work as a Project Ambassador for Gig Buddies is going well! I’ve had some positive feedback from a talk I gave in Wrexham last week. I’ve even got my own business cards. It’s made a positive difference to me to have a paid job and I’ve learnt loads. It feels great to have a salary and it means I can plan things.
I get out more and meet more people and make connections. I still volunteer in different roles, such as social media for Gig Buddies, the Anglesey rep for the North Wales Flyers and I’ve been sharing the NC rep duties with Jac – I’m the one who gets to travel to the NC meetings if they’re outside north Wales.
Last time we spoke I was off to see my Dad in Dorset. My sister and her family were going too but there wasn’t enough room in the car for me on the way down. So I travelled by myself on the train from Bangor all the way down south and managed to navigate the underground with some help from Passenger Assist. I’d recommend booking this assistance if you’re nervous at all. It was great. They made sure I got on the right train! I had a lift back with my sister’s boyfriend though.
Dad had just got married when I got to Dorset so we all went out for a family meal the next day to celebrate. I booked my own caravan too. My sister and her family were down there separately from me but we met up and had a great family holiday.
I’ve been busy attending Roaring Mon meetings and the North Wales Flyers – they tend to be online because it’s quite difficult with public transport to get to meetings in north Wales.
At the start of every academic year I put up a post on Facebook to warn about bullying. I was badly bullied in secondary school and it really affected my life. I don’t want any other children to go through what I went through.
A few years ago, I was a victim of domestic abuse. It was awful but I’ve moved on from it now and have learnt the signs to look for. The support staff where I lived were very good and they contacted the police. My ex was moved on from his accommodation (we both lived in the same block of flats). It was a dreadful time. I’d like to be in a relationship again, but I wouldn’t rush into anything.
Anyway, I’ve come a long way since all that! I’ve moved to north Wales, I live in my own flat, I’m working and travelling all over the country independently. I still suffer from anxiety and depression and I take medication for that. I also try to get outside and go for a walk every day and I buy the adult colouring books to do – they help me.
