I’m very excited to say that I’ve got a paid job with Learning Disability Wales and I start tomorrow!  I’ve been volunteering with them for a number of years now, but I’ve got a paid role as a Project Ambassador for Gig Buddies.  I’ll be promoting the project all over north Wales, networking, meeting new people and travelling around.  I’ve got my induction tomorrow.

I’m so looking forward to building up my skills and being a proper staff member.  They phoned me the day of the interview to let me know I had been successful.  I was over the moon!
The interview was face to face and I was allowed to see the questions beforehand so I could prepare. That made things much better.  Three people interviewed me!

It’s been a busy few weeks for me.  I chaired LDW’s Annual Conference again this year (fourth year in a row) and it went really well. I stayed overnight in Llandudno the night before and that helped me get settled, ready for my role as Chair.

I also went to Cardiff for the Learning Disability Ministerial Advisory Group (LDMAG) recently. I was proud of myself because I didn’t understand some of the words they were using and I spoke up and asked them to explain.

I’m joining the Quality Statement meeting in Bangor with All Wales later this month – we’ll be talking about making health and social care better for people with a learning disability.

I’d much rather be busy than twiddling my thumbs at home. I find the weekends difficult and I’m always glad when the week starts again and there’s plenty to do.
