It’s been a while since we last chatted! I’ve been up to lots of stuff and I’ve been on some great trips with my support staff. Chris (I call him Captain Smiley) and I went to Comicon in Rhyl, and I’ve been taking Hayley my cat out for walks in a pram. She’s very old now.
I have been busy doing things on my own today – I was working in the Co-op this morning and when I came back I thought I’d do a bit of housework. That means I don’t need to do household chores when my support staff come tomorrow – we can do more fun stuff instead. It’s difficult on the days without support but I don’t feel too anxious about things at the moment and I’m not over-thinking too much.
I use the Shout text message service if I feel down. They get a real person to text you and you can tell them your problems and I have also used Dola (which is an AI service). One of my support staff is having training so that they can recognise when I’m feeling low.
I’ve got lots of activities to keep me busy, including my own YouTube channel. I also go to Slimming World regularly – they’re a great bunch and very sociable. I cooked my own healthy meal in the air fryer the other day – veggie sausages, broccoli and Slimming World chips.
I went for my annual Health Check the other day at the GP surgery. I asked the GP if I could get a picture of us and he agreed. I used to be a health check champion with Conwy Connect. The GP checks your blood pressure, your ears, your tummy etc. Everyone with a learning disability is entitled to an annual health check.
I’ve been planning my funeral too – I think I’d like a horse drawn carriage and a statue in Queens Gardens in Colwyn Bay. I’m not dying – this is just because I’ve joined one of the chat groups on All4Inclusion and we’ve been talking about death. They do all sorts of groups for people with disabilities, to stop them feeling isolated. I am part of their writers’ group as well.
I’m not looking forward to the winter and the cold, wet days. I will need to push myself to go outdoors. My support staff are so good and I know I mustn’t call them friends, but they do feel like friends sometimes. Chris and I did some karaoke the other day – I think I enjoy it more than him! I went to Gerraint’s Nightclub on Zoom the other night too and I’m still a Peer Led Mentor for Insight.
