Diary update, Paul: July 2026

Last week I went with my Gig Buddy Hedydd to Sesiwn Fawr – a Welsh music festival in Dolgellau.  There was lots of entertainment, music and ice cream.  It was great fun. My Community Nurse introduced me to Gig Buddies – I would encourage anyone with a learning disability to sign up for a Gig Buddy and if anyone is reading this without a learning disability, please think about signing up!

It was my birthday last week too, though I didn’t do anything special.  I just went to Anheddau as normal.  I’ve enrolled on an Art course again with Menter Fachwen – I did drawing and painting using different types of paints and colours. I like learning new skills and it’s very calming.

I’ve seen a few things lately about people with a learning disability living independently but I don’t think it’s for me.  I like being at home because I have my own space here and mum allows me to be quite independent.  Everyone’s different aren’t they? I think I would find it quite difficult to have support staff  I don’t think they’re paid enough either!  I’m lucky that mum and I have a good system for living together! She doesn’t tell me what to do!

I only missed one day of the football when the World Cup was on – I love football and used to really enjoy playing it.  I’d like to start again if I could.  I enjoy being an Ambassador for the Special Olympics and encouraging people to get involved in sport and keep fit.  I loved the tennis too, though it’s not the same now Roger Federer isn’t playing!
