It’s been a long time since I last did an update.  I’ve just come off a Roaring Mon online meeting.  We went to meet a council representative on Anglesey in early June, to talk about the issues that local people are facing.  We talked to him about the bus cuts and we’re going to meet up with him every three months now.  It was a positive meeting.  We brought up lots of issues.

The bus cuts is a massive issue though.  Lots of routes have been cut – the buses go through towns but not through the villages and people are isolated.  There’s talk of Community Buses run by volunteers to reach the more rural areas and fill the gaps.  I’ve been asked to take the bus issue to the Senedd members in Cardiff because we don’t think that they understand what it’s like to live rurally in the north.

I loved Adfest and I won an award for ‘connecting members through Zoom’.  I do a lot with the Insight App and I’m part of the Peer Led Team.  We offer online socials 6 nights a week.  Often people with a learning disability can’t go out in the evenings or don’t have the confidence to do so.  We offer a social session from around 7 pm until 11.  We do activities, games, music etc.  Sometimes it’s hard to think of things to do!  Sometimes I teach a bit of Welsh. 

Welsh is important to me – it’s my first language and I do a bit of translation for Roaring Mon’s social media posts.  In my opinion, everything should be bi-lingual in Wales because we are a Welsh democracy.

Next time AdFest is on, I’m planning to stay overnight for the two days – now I know what it’s like I’ll feel more comfortable. I had such a warm welcome from everyone – they all wanted to hug me! I met my girlfriend for the first time too – we live at opposite ends of Wales.

I’ve grown in confidence since joining a self advocacy group, I’m still on the Citizen Panel and we recently did a Questions and Answers session too in the Council Chambers.

I’ve been volunteering to help run a Boccia training session on the first Thursday of each month too – it’s like bowls for people with a learning disability.

I’m busy, but I manage my time quite well.
