I made it to the whole AdFest event this year – it was held in Cardiff and to be able to come down independently and stay for the whole event made me feel great. I met loads of new people. I travelled on my own but met up with people on the train. It gave me a real boost to attend the event without any support and I feel more confident because of it.
I’d love to come down for the next House of Deviant show in south Wales but you’ve got to think about the cost and to prioritise paying your bills first. I feel much more independent doing it, it’s just affording it!
I’m working hard to get more members for Roaring Mon and I’m working on their social media, along with Jac who does the Welsh translations for me. I’m the face of their TikTok too
I’m still volunteering with Gig Buddies and LDW have asked me to chair their National Conference again this year; I think it promotes a positive image of people with learning disabilities too.
I’m trying to get out and about more and I’ve started volunteering with Marie Curie doing local, community-based fundraising etc.
I’ve been in touch with the local radio station to see if they’ve got any presenting roles available too. I feel more confident to get out and about these days and try new things.
I’m doing a challenge in September – Walk 60 Miles for Refuge, the charity which supports women who have experienced domestic violence and abuse. I’ll just walk around and about wherever and whenever I can. It’ll make me get out more, I think. As will joining the local Lawn Bowls club – I’m looking into joining that too!
Talking about getting out and about, I’ve been travelling on the train on my own to see Daniel in Chester regularly and we went with his parents to Liverpool recently. That was fun.
