I’m fed up with the World Cup already!  I prefer to watch the tennis although if Wales was in the World Cup I’d probably be more interested.

Remember I was in the TV programme Y Cyfweliad (the Welsh language version of The Assembly?). Well, I was invited a couple f weeks ago to go to a hotel in Caernarfon for an evaluation session.  There were four of us and we asked the audience what they thought of Y Cyfweliad.  I think the TV company are hoping to do more programmes with people with a learning disability.  I asked the audience if they would like to see more programmes with people with a learning disability or who are neurodivergent and the answer was yes.

There should be more programmes in my opinion – Y Cyfweliad is opening doors for disabled people!  I also suggested that people with a disability should be able to take part in other programmes. I think people with a disability should get the chance to do things like everyone else.  The audience stood and clapped us at the end – I felt very emotional. That’s never happened to me before.

I think in Wales because we’re a small country, the celebs feel like our neighbours or friends, don’t they? Cymru fach!

I did a spot of volunteering at the Eisteddfod last month – it was SOOO warm!  In Learning Disability Week in June, I was asked to raise a flag at Ysbyty Gwynedd and give a speech.  There was a Makaton Choir there and I had to thank them.  My arm hurt after raising the flag – I should’ve had my Weetabix that morning lol

I think they asked me to do it because I’m good at public speaking.   That evening I had an interview to be a Health Check Champion with Conwy Connect.  I got the role because I gave good answers and I’m very organised; I’ll just be covering Anglesey and Gwynedd.

I’m also currently sharing the role of National Council rep for Anglesey with my colleague from Roaring Mon, Vic.  She will go to the meetings in south Wales, and I’ll do the north Wales ones. I’m off to Mold next week with Tracy who is the current rep.  I’m getting more confident with the travelling, but I’d rather do it in baby steps.  It’s a shame that self advocates down south don’t get the opportunities we seem to get up here.

I’m on the Social Work panel team too – interviewing trainee social workers.  I have to act very professionally – it’s not an easy job but I’m good at speaking and I’m a first language Welsh speaker.  The Open University wrote the questions that we have to ask.  I got  a gift card this year for my help too!  I’m having a rest this week – it’s going to be hot again and I don’t like it too hot.
