I have exciting news. I am going to be lecturing to students on other courses from September onwards.
I already lecture to students on the Nursing courses. I will also be talking to students on Social Work, Pharmacy, Sports and Medical courses.
I will be explaining my experiences of being a person with a learning disability and – for example – with the social work students, I will talk to them about what it’s like having a social worker. With Pharmacy I’ll explain what it’s like picking up your medication and how people with a learning disability should be treated. I’ll tell the medical students how I felt when I went for surgery.
I’m not sure when I will start to teach the Sports students but when I do, I’ll be able to share my experience of competing at the Special Olympics.
There will be lots more work to do this academic year!
I enjoyed AdFest this year – I had a stall with one of the Nursing Course staff and we were promoting Learning Disability Nursing. A few people came to our stall.
I’ve joined the Summer Club and we went on a day trip to Caernarfon the other day – we had a go at cycling through the streets.
Trilogy Nightclub in Bangor was great fun last night – it’s an accessible nightclub for people with a learning disability run by Llwybrau Llesiant – it’s from 7 – 10pm. Lots of people were dancing and you’re able to buy a beer if you want. It’s great fun. Loads of people from across north Wales came to it.
